Codex III·Solmara
Solmara
The maritime superpower. Warm, proud, and in no mood to revisit the past.
The Founding
Solmara is the southern remnant of the original nation of Solmere, the nation born from rebellion. The people of the south bore the worst of what corrupt rule became. They rose, they fought, and they won. Solmara does not call itself a remnant. It calls itself Solmara. The rebellion was not a fracture, it was a founding.
The south broke from Solmere and used Thessa's Gate, the narrow tidal land bridge connecting the peninsula to the mainland, to hold the line against everything that came after. The war with Selmar has ground on since the split. The Gate has kept it a stalemate.
Solmara has never been successfully invaded. The Gate has seen to that.
Character
Warm climate, warm people, proud in the way of those who built something from nothing and kept it. The sea is livelihood, highway, and fortress wall. Their navy is not defensive. It is dominant.
People
Primarily human.
Thessa's Gate
The narrow tidal land bridge connecting Solmara to the mainland. Passable on foot at low tide. When the tide turns, it disappears. Every general who has ever misjudged it has learned why it bears a name. Who Thessa was, Solmarans disagree on, and Selmar has its own answer, which is not flattering.
