Codex II·—
Aurenthaal
The landlocked superpower. They choose to be neutral, but don't mistake it for weakness.
The Land
The only nation of significant power at the heart of Aldor, ringed by natural borders of ridges and forests. Aurenthaal exports food, minerals, and metals. Every other nation needs at least one of those things. Aurenthaal knows this.
The Aurenthaalan Posture
Aurenthaal has never needed to start a war. It ends wars started against it, with a professional army, well-equipped from its own mines and well-fed from its own fields. Neutral by policy, not by weakness. The Great Houses, five noble families whose domains cover the pillars of Aurenthaal's prosperity, counsel the king and govern their territories.
Character
Stable, proud, and quietly aware of its own indispensability. Life here is as good as it gets in Aldor, reliable harvests, strong infrastructure, functioning law. People from elsewhere notice this immediately. People born here take it for granted.
Once a year the city of Harrath holds the Festival of Light: a city-wide celebration drawing visitors from across the continent.
People
Primarily human. The Great Houses are old families with long memories and longer grudges, but they keep those internal.
Cities
Harrath
The walled capital. Four gates, stone walls thick enough to walk along the top. At its heart sits an exposed crater that the city was built around. Nobody explains what it is. Nobody who lives here thinks that's strange.
Cragveil
Southwest, near the mountain border. Mining and metalwork.
Aldenmere
Northwest, forest edge. Agricultural heart of the nation.
