The North

The Valdmere Empire occupies the northern portion of Aldor. The most powerful single political entity on the continent, and the one that the south would most prefer to stop thinking about.

How the Empire Came to Be

The north has always been harder than the south. Every generation of northerners has had to fight where the south fought once and then rested. This produced harder people with less patience for diplomacy and a relationship with death that the south finds uncomfortable.

Good rulers tried to hold the north. They failed, not for lack of courage or intention, but because the problem was simply too large and too old. What came after was the empire.

Character

The empire is divided into three districts, each governed separately. The empire is not at war with the south, not openly. It is simply present, across The Narrows, in a way that Zarenthor is acutely aware of and the rest of the south tries to ignore.
