The Greylands

Not a place people are born into with pride. A place people end up.

The Land

Between Aurenthaal to the north-northwest, Verantum to the east, Grymhold to the west, and the coast to the south. Not really a country, a frontier zone that someone has technically claimed and never managed to tame.

The Merchant Roads

Merchant roads connect Verantum, Aurenthaal, and Grymhold through this territory. Those roads are the only reason The Greylands exists as a concept at all, three powerful neighbours need the routes open, so the territory cannot be completely abandoned. But none of them want to pay to fix it either.

Character

Orcs and Goblins migrate through from the Grymhold wildlands, using the territory as a corridor toward The Whispering Forest, pillaging the merchant roads as they go. The villages have learned to hide.

The Greylands is where everyone else ended up, Half-orcs displaced from the Whispering Forest, Half-elves, Tieflings, Dragonborn, forgotten warriors, disgraced knights. Anyone for whom every other door has closed. What unifies them is not race or origin but the fact of having been discarded by somewhere else.

People

Every race. True Greylanders, actually born there, are rare and quietly distinct. They are the only ones who cannot answer where are you really from? with somewhere else.

It would be a mistake to underestimate what you get when the most experienced, hardened, and desperate people in Aldor all end up in the same ungoverned frontier.
